Soche Land Care Extension Project
SRGDI was funded by Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme to engage communities surrounding the Soche hill to re‐establish a forest on the bare Soche Hill in Blantyre. SRGDI built the capacity of communities in Tree Propagation, Forest Based Enterprises. Soil and Water Conservation, Land Use and Climate Change. The communities have planted 46000 trees covering about 16.5 hectares of bare land. SRGDI also helped communities to access water for drinking, domestic and agricultural use. About 2500 households are benefiting from the project.
OTHER CLIMATE CHANGE ACCOMPLISHEMENTS
In 2010 with funding from Malawi Environment Endowment Trust (MEET), SRGDI documented climate changes issues in Malawi particularly drought and flood produce districts of Chikhwawa and Balaka districts in Malawi. In the documentary SRGDI documented how Climate change is affecting communities and how they are coping up. Issues on Gender, Family Planning and population were observed.
The documentary was produce to advocate for adaptation activities. SRGDI was also involved in planning of the Malawi government Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP) and Climate Change Programme (CCP). SRGDI was also involved in the review of the current National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA).
SRGDI has participated in the 41st GEF Council Meeting in Washington DC and also the Southern Africa Expanded Workshop of the GEF in Cape Town, South Africa. SRGDI cofounded the National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC) in Malawi.
