SDI was founded by young graduates from University of Malawi. The organisation was formed to improve the quality of lives and livelihoods of people, promote sustainable development and create entrepreneurship and job opportunities for young people. The organisation started from humble beginning helping vulnerable communities through contributions made by young graduates.
Since its establishment in 2006, SDI has implemented over 40 small and medium scale projects in Malawi and SADC region ,investing over 1billion Malwian Kwacha. The organisation has vast experience and expertise in implementing developmental, relief , research and advocacy projects. SDI has contributed towards improvement of lives and livelihoods of over 500,000 households (Approximately 2.5million people) particularly in Chikhwawa, Nsanje, Chitipa, Blantyre, Thyolo Salima, Mulanje, Lilongwe, Phalombe and Zomba districts. SDI also provides library services, computers and internet services to communities in Blantyre.
SDI has grown and acquired knowledge and experience, employing highly trained professionals and experts and also providing internships to fresh graduates from within Malawi and abroad.
